Image: Arslan lands with higher connect percentage than Huck but still winsBy Dan Ambrose: Firat Arslan did what he had to do to earn a decision last night against WBO cruiderweight champion Marco Huck, but the judges still didn’t go along with the program and awarded Huck a decision despite Arslan landing with a far better connect percentage. The three judges were unanimous in seeing Huck as the winner, giving him the controversial decision by the scores of 115-113, 115-113 and 117-111.

According to Bild.de, Arslan landed 235 of 684 punches for a 34 percent connect percentage, whereas Huck connected on 241 of 857 shots for 28 percent. What could have thrown the judges off in scoring the fight was Huck’s higher workrate, but you’d have to be blind not to notice that Huck’s shots were getting blocked all night long. He wasn’t scoring cleanly and it was pretty clear just in watching that he wasn’t having much luck in landing.

It’s pretty sad when you have a fighter winning when he only has a small advantage in punches landed but with a much worse connect percentage than the other fighter.

The decision was booed loudly by the 6400 boxing fans that came to the fight in Germany. They obviously saw much different fight than the three judges at ringside. And a lot of the boxing fans at home also saw a much different fight the judges given the anger that fans are expressing in various internet boxing forums.

Huck was getting lit up by Arslan the entire fight and proved to be nearly helpless on the inside against him. The referee failed to warn or take points away from Huck for his shoving of Arslan. Shoving isn’t legal in boxing, and Huck was able to get away with constant shoving of Arslan throughout the fight.

Arslan landed the harder shots, but Huck came on in the past part of the fight with some nice body punching. But it still shouldn’t have been enough for him to get a decision win because he was pretty well dominated by Arslan in this fight.
