Image: Wilder will be much better after training with WladimirBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (25-0, 25 KO’s) is currently training with IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 51 KO’s) to get him ready for his November 10th fight against Mariusz Wach (27-0, 15 KO’s) at the O2 World Arnea in Hamburg, Germany. Wilder, 26, is being used because of his immense talent, his huge 6’7″ size, and his monstrous right hand from another world. The 6’7 1/2″ Wach also has huge size and a big right hand, but not quite as powerful or thrown with the same kind of high velocity that Wilder’s right hands come flying in when he throws them.

For Wilder, this is going to be a real treat because he’s going to be able to spend weeks sparring with Wladimir to help him for the Wach fight. But this will also help Wilder a lot more, because it’ll teach him what it’s like to be in with the best heavyweight in the division, and it can’t help but to raise Wilder’s skills. Wladimir has the best jab in the division, and his footwork, right hand and defense are also quite good. Wilder has great footwork of his own, but he’ll learn a lot by being able to be in with Wladimir to raise his game.

Wilder just finished helping Audley Harrison out for his fight with British heavyweight champion David Price, and while things didn’t work out well for Harrison in that fight, it’s not Wilder’s fault. He gave Harrison four weeks of top rated sparring and if Harrison couldn’t take advantage of that by using what he learned from Wilder against Price then that’s on him. Wilder no doubt taught Harrison to go out there and get his shots off first and just not let up. But instead of following Wilder’s lead and bombarding the tender-chinned Price with nonstop left hands and right hooks, Harrison held back with his shots as if he were a stingy miser not wanting to give money. It foolish of Harrison to fight like that, but it infinitely wasn’t Wilder’s fault.

Wilder plans on fighting on December 15th, and there’s talk that he’ll be on the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Carlos Molina fight on Showtime. Wilder’s promoters are looking to find him a high quality heavyweight for him to fight so that he can look good in front of the large nationwide audience in the U.S. I’d like to see Wilder at least fight a bottom feeder fringe contender because that would give him a good opportunity to show his stuff.
