Roach still insisting that Pacquiao needs KO to beat Marquez

By Chris Williams: In what appears to be trainer Freddie Roach trying some reverse psychology he’s been saying lately that the only way that his fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) can win his December 8th fight against Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) is if he knocks him out. The reason that Roach is saying this is because he feels that the judges will be looking to slant their scores to Marquez because of the perception that he’s been jobbed in all three fights with Pacquiao.

So by Roach constantly saying that the only way that Pacquiao can win this fight with Marquez, it appears Roach is trying to get into the judges’ minds by making them conscious about what they’re possibly about to do in taking away victory from Pacquiao.

Roach said in an interview at Maxboxing.com “We all know we have to win by knockout this time. Manny said so too.”

What a joke. Pacquiao wins two very controversial decisions over Marquez and then also gets a controversial draw, and now Roach feels his fighter Pacquiao won’t be able to win a decision. That’s hilarious. What does Roach want the judges to do give it to Pacquiao anyway even if Marquez clearly beats him again? Sure, the judges can do this but it reflects badly on them and ruins the sport in a huge way.

If Pacquiao is going to be given decisions that run counter to how boxing fans see his fights then it’s going to really take away from the game. Instead of complaining that his fighter Pacquiao needs a KO to win, Roach should be hoping that the judges finally get the scoring right for a change when Pacquiao fights Marquez.

Roach should be up front about the three questionable fights with Marquez and realize that it was Marquez that messed over in those fights, not Pacquiao. He’s been getting the benefit of the questionable scoring, so why should it change now?
