Kessler: It’s payback time for Magee

Kessler wants to end Magee’s dominance of the Danes when they meet up at the BOXEN, in Herning, Denmark.

Kessler will be fighting in his own country for this fight and he could sell out the 13, 488 indoor arena with Danes for this fight. But I don’t know that it’ll matter because Magee is on the top of his game right now, fighting better than he ever has before. I think he’s ready to take down another Danish fighter. Magee has already whipped Rudy Markussen and Mads Larsen from Denmark, and he’s gunning for this third Dane with Kessler.

Kessler said to the Belfasttelgraph.co.uk “I known Mads Larsen and Rudy Markussen, he has beaten two of my friends and now it’s payback time…Yes, this is a question of honor.”

Kessler should let Markussen and Larsen fight their own battles, because he’s slipped too much as a fighter to be avenging other fighters’ losses against top guys. There was a time in the past where Kessler could do such things, but age, inactivity, injuries, ring wear and rust have all a done a major number on his skills. Right now, Kessler is more of a middle of the pack type of contender in the super middleweight division rather than one of the top two or three guys like before.

Magee is simply fighting at too high of a level now for Kessler to beat him. The guy has found the fountain of youth because at 37, Magee is fighting better than he was when he was in his 20s. We see that with his impressive wins over Markussen, Larsen, both of which Magee spanked badly.

Magee did lose to former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute by a 10th round TKO in March of last year, but Bute is a talented fighter and there’s no shame in losing to a guy like that. Bute used his strengths in that fight with ferocious body punching that Magee couldn’t handle. Bute didn’t throw body shots in his loss to Carl Froch, which is probably the main reason why he lost the fight.

I like Magee in this fight. Kessler has really slipped a few notches as we saw in his unimpressive win over Allan Green last May in a fight where Kessler was dumped on the canvas in the 1st round.
