The fight will also be televised on Sky Sports 1HD in the UK.

Besides the Khan-Molina fight there’s a possibility that unbeaten former U.S. 2008 Olympic heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder (25-0, 25 KO’s) could be on the undercard. Golden Boy Promotions are looking for an opponent to put with the 6’7″ Wilder and they’re reportedly looking for a quality name to put him in with. Let’s hope so because the Molina-Khan card REALLY needs some help with Khan vs. Molina being the main event.

It’s not usual to have a main event where the only semi-recognizable name [Khan] has lost his last two fights, one of them being by a crushing knockout. The other odd thing is his opponent Molina, 26, isn’t even a light welterweight and has picked from the lightweight division specifically for Khan. Molina doesn’t have power, and has never faced a top tier opponent before. So in other words, Showtime is televising a card with a pitiful main event and there’s a possibility that the co-main event will be just as bad unless they can find someone good. One would hope that Wilder doesn’t end up as the co-main event. I wouldn’t seeing him fight in this position if Golden Boy would break from their habit of matching Wilder against weak 3rd tier opposition and finally put him in with at least a decent B level guy instead of all these poor, and over-matched fighters.

I’m not sure why Showtime agreed to televise the Khan-Molina fight, but I guess it’s a gamble on their part that if they show this fight Khan could possibly work out for him if he can stop losing over and over again. Khan has a new trainer in Virgil Hunter and there’s a lot of hopes that he can work his magic on Khan like he did in making Andre Ward a world champion. I wouldn’t bet on it happening. Showtime might be better off looking in another direction unless they’re okay with seeing Khan fight a bunch of light hitting fighters for the next year or so while he’s maneuvered around the dangerous opposition at light welterweight.
