Hatton, 33, met with the British Boxing Board of Control on Wednesday to get licensed for a possible fight on November 24th in Manchester.

Robert Smith, the secretary of the BBBofC, said to rte.ie “I’m not a doctor but once we get the medicals in our doctors will look at them. If they are fine they will be signed off. That’s all we’re waiting for. He’s been granted a license pending the medical.”

It look as if Smith and the BBBofC won’t prevent Hatton from getting licensed despite the allegations of cocaine use that popped up a couple of years ago.

Hatton has taken a lot of weight and looks the best he has since 2009 when he last fought against Manny Pacquiao. Hatton lost that fight by a 2nd round knockout and hasn’t fought since.

It’s unknown who Hatton will be fighting on November 24th, if any one. It’s also unclear what he hopes to accomplish by coming back at this time. Some boxing fans think Hatton is doing this just so that he can get a television contract for his fighters in his Hatton Promotions stable. However, it’s difficult to imagine Hatton being able to get them back on Sky unless his comeback is hugely successful.

The chances of that happening are remote at best. Hatton would have to beat a lot of good fighters and it’s probably not realistic that he’ll be able to compete with the best anymore. Hatton might fair better just trying to compete against the fringe contenders in the light welterweight or welterweight divisions. If he can beat a few bottom ranked guys he could land a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., if he can prove that he’s still a big draw.
