Image: Mayweather Jr. will get a worn out Pacquiao next year if he faces Marquez nextBy Chris Williams: For Manny Pacquiao’s sake, he needs to stand up and tell his promoter Bob Arum that he doesn’t want to fight Juan Manuel Marquez next on December 8th, because if he does Pacquiao will not only likely lose the fight or win another controversial decision makes him look bad but he’ll also take a beating in that fight and not leave much for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to face next year when he finally gets shot against the Filipino.

A fourth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez right now would be a really bad idea for Pacquiao. He’s taken too much punishment in his recent fights, and it’s really starting to show the affects with Pacquiao slowing down and not firing shots the way he used to in my view.

Pacquiao really wants a fight against Mayweather Jr. next year, but facing Marquez isn’t the type of fight that you would take to get ready for a punishing fight against someone like Mayweather. That’s worse thing you can. I don’t know if it’s Arum’s idea for Pacquiao to fight someone tough, but if it is then Pacquiao should tell him to forget it. Pacquiao needs rest. Marquez is a bad opponent to get ready for Mayweather anyway, because he’s nothing like him. Pacquiao should be trying to fight someone fast and accurate like Zab Judah or Adrien Broner if he wants to get ready for Floyd.

If not those guys then maybe someone like Victor Ortiz, who’s got a lot of hand speed, or Devon Alexander. Those would be tough fights but at least they’re the correct stepping stone fights that you need to take to get ready for a fighter as fast and as skilled as Mayweather.
