Image: Katsidis picks Mitchell to beat Burns tonightBy Scott Gilfoid: Michael Katsidis sees Kevin Mitchell (33-1, 24 KO’s) emerging victorious tonight against WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (34-2, 9 KO’s) in what many boxing fans see as a can’t lose fight for Burns at the Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. Katsidis has fought both Burns and Mitchell, destroying Mitchell in three rounds in 2010 and then losing a controversial 12 round decision to Burns last year in November.

Katsidis said to thesun.co.uk “Mitchell will do a number on Burns. No doubts. Burns got 30 percent Katsidis and just beat me on points and Mitchell got 90 percent Katsidis.”

30% or 90%, I still Katsidis easily beating Burns last year. All Burns did all night long was hang on the ropes, covering up while Katsidis unloaded on him with shot after shot. Every now and then, Burns would land a jab and then go back to covering up. It was like watching a sparring partner get worked over by a champion. The fight took place in the UK, so each time Burns would land one of his jabs, the British fans would go mad with excitement while ignoring the tons of shots that Katsidis was landing.

I don’t see Mitchell getting a decision tonight. If Katsidis couldn’t a decision with the way he worked Burns over last year, then no way will Mitchell be getting a win. Mitchell doesn’t hit as hard as Katsidis and he doesn’t throw as many shots as him as well. Mitchell won’t win this fight even if he appears to win it.

Look for Burns to win an ugly controversial decision that angers some fans while pleasing his Scottish fans.
