Has Froch let his fans down by picking Yusaf Mack to fight next?

Image: Has Froch let his fans down by picking Yusaf Mack to fight next?By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s loyal boxing fans are going to get to see him in what appears to be a terrible mismatch on November 17th against light heavyweight Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) at the Capital FM Arena, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire.

Instead of facing an actual contender in the super middleweight division that could test him and give his boxing fans a great show in the Nottingham Arena and on Sky, Froch will be taking on a guy that has little chance to beat him in 32-year-old Mack. Isn’t this kind of unfair to Froch’s loyal, loving and enduring fans?

Yes, I know that many of Froch’s fans think he deserves to fight an easy mark and think it’s okay to take an easy one after he got beat in the Super Six tournament by Andre Ward. I personally it’s not okay. Since Froch is in the entertainment business, his job is to fight the best guy out there each time he fights, and not take easy fights.

If Froch’s job was to press cloths at the local cleaners in Nottingham, would the customers be happy if he handed them a bunch of wrinkled clothes that they had paid their hard-earned money to have pressed? Would they figure, ‘Oh, it’s okay, he’s had it hard lately. Let’s just pay for the wrinkled clothes like we would if he did a good job on them.’

No, I’m sorry but taking an easy fight shouldn’t be okay with Froch’s fans, because that’s not how things should be done. I don’t know why Froch and his promoter Eddie Hearn didn’t get Kelly Pavlik or at least Thomas Oosthuizen for his next fight. They should have.

If it meant giving them a little extra cash out of the money that normally would have gone into their own pockets, then they should have done that. They should have pulled the cash out of the kitty and made the fights happen. But if they aren’t going to put Froch in with the best, then they need to discount the tickets something fierce to make it up to the fans for the mismatch. If I was the head of Sky Sports, no way would I air Froch vs. Mack. I’d tell Hearn, ‘No thanks, not interested in that fight. Good luck with Primetime.’
