Froch can’t take his eyes off of Mack

By Scott Gilfoid: It’s painfully obvious why light heavyweight contender Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) was selected to fight IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) on November 17th at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, UK. Mack, 32, is being dragged down from 175 lbs to get an opponent that will hopefully make it interesting for the Brits that eager to see this mismatch but not good enough to actually beat Froch. Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants to keep Froch winning so that he can get big payday rematches against Mikkel Kessler and Lucian Bute in 2013.

They obviously didn’t to take a chance by putting Froch in with an opponent that could potentially out-box him or KO him. This is where Mack comes in. He’s not much of a boxer, so there’s not much worry from Hearn and Froch about losing a decision to this guy. Mack also has a shaky chin, which is probably the biggest flaw in his game. When Mack gets hit hard he tends to get knocked out when facing quality fighter. So, Mack is vulnerable coming into this fight with Froch.

However, Mack has good power, better than Froch or Lucian Bute as far as I can tell. That makes him dangerous for Froch, because we already know that Froch is vulnerably to getting hurt when he takes a hard shot. We already saw Froch staggered by the talented Andre Dirrell, and also knocked down by Jermain Taylor. We saw Froch get staggered by Mikkel Kessler.

Froch could be looking over his shoulder towards his big paydays fights against Bute and Kessler, and might not be prepared for the kind of tough fight he’ll have on his hands against the big hitting Mack.

Mack likely knows that he’s got to start quick to try and get Froch out of the ring as fast as possible to prevent him getting into the fight.
