Image: Bradley Sr: Pacquiao should be trying to avenge his loss to TimBy Chris Williams: Tim Bradley Sr. doesn’t understand why Manny Pacquiao isn’t jumping all over a rematch with his son WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (29-0, 12 KO’s) after losing a 12 round decision to him last June in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bradley Sr. feels that Pacquiao should be trying to avenge the loss rather than sitting back unable to decide who to fight next.

Bradley Sr. said to writer Chris Robinson at Examiner.com “I’m not even focused on any other fight other than a rematch with my son and Manny Pacquiao. Because I’m old school. When a champion loses a fight, he should automatically want to get his title back.”

I think Pacquiao has been given a lot of cover for not taking the Bradley rematch, because a lot of boxing fans felt that Pacquiao should have won that fight, even though he was only fighting hard in the last 20 seconds of every round instead of the full three minutes like Bradley. Pacquiao’s fans feel that those 20 seconds were enough to win the rounds against an injured Bradley. The judges, who no doubt have seen aging veterans that use tricks to win rounds by fighting hard in the last seconds of the round, didn’t buy into it and instead gave the decision to Bradley.

I won’t be surprised if Pacquiao doesn’t fight Bradley again. After all, Pacquiao moved on after receiving a very questionable decision over Juan Manuel Marquez in their fight in 2008. A lot of boxing fans felt that Marquez should have won that fight, and I felt that way as well. But instead of fighting Marquez immediately to try and clear up the controversy, Pacquiao moved and didn’t fight Marquez again until the Mexican was 38-years-old. Some boxing fans felt that the only reason Pacquiao and Arum chose to fight Marquez at this point was because he was nearing 40 and might not be a threat anymore. Unfortunately, things went bad for Pacquiao with Marquez out-boxing Pacquiao for 12 rounds, and making him look bad.

Again, the judges gave Pacquiao controversial decision that didn’t sit right with many of the boxing fans that saw the fight. Right now, it’s up in the air whether Pacquiao will fight Marquez or Bradley or whether he’ll sit it out for the remainder of 2012 and wait on a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013. But I won’t be surprised at all if Pacquiao doesn’t fight Bradley or Marquez again. In fact, I’d be surprised if he were to fight them.
