Image: Should Golden Boy cash out with Khan?By William Mackay: With Amir Khan now having lost his last two fights and there being a good possibility that he’ll suffer additional losses in the near future if he’s matched halfway tough should his promoters at Golden Boy Promotion look to cash out with Khan by trying to land the hugest fight possible, such as a bout agaisnt Manny Pacquiao if were possible?

You have to look at this from a business perspective. If you’ve got a fighter who is on the verge of losing his money making potential if he suffers additional losses in the future against non-stars then you have to make a decision whether to let that happen and see the cash flow dwindle down to next to nothing or simply cash out with the biggest money fight you can get while it’s still possible. In this case, Golden Boy could really help themselves by finding the biggest money fighter they can get and convincing their promoter to take the Khan fight.

For a rival promoter like Bob Arum of Top Rank, I can see him saying yes to a fight between his fighter Pacquiao and Khan because it’s clearly a better option than putting Pacquiao back in with Tim Bradley because Khan would almost surely bring in more money in a PPV bout with Pacquiao than Bradley would. It would also be a pretty safe fight for Pacquiao, as long as he didn’t suffer any cramping in his legs that might keep him from catching up to Khan to force him to fight.

Golden Boy could do well to see the full picture of what Khan’s future chances are of success. If he fails in his next fight or the one after that, you can bet that his stock will continue to plummet to the point where he’s no longer seen on HBO, and his money making potential goes down the drain along with it. It might be better for Golden Boy to take that one big payday bout right now and get out before the fall.
