Pavlik still in the running for Froch fight in November

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34 KO’s) is still being mentioned as a possibility to fight IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) in November according to the latest boxing news.

Pavlik already says he wants to fight Froch, but he wants to be paid well for him to come over there. The question is will Hearn give Pavlik the cash he wants or will he offer him dimes and mess things up?

Froch just had unbeaten super middleweight contender Thomas Oosthuizen bail on him. Although there wasn’t a stated reason, it could be that the money offered to Oosthuizen wasn’t what he was looking for.

Pavlik is in the same boat. For him to be willing to come all the way over to the UK and fight in Froch’s back yard, Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn is going to have reach deep into his pockets and grab some that green stuff to for Pavlik to wet his beak. Pavlik isn’t going to fly over to Nottingham and subject himself to fighting in front 9000 wild-eyed Brits screaming their heads off all night long for pennies.

Hearn is always talking about wanting to match his fighters against big named opponents, but I’ve noticed that he very rarely actually gets any of those big named fighters to come over to the UK to fight. He can Pavlik if he reaches deep and pays the man what he’s worth. Hearn can get Pavlik for Froch, and it would easily the biggest fight that Froch has had since he was in the Super Six tournament facing the likes of Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell. But that’s not going to happen unless Hearn is willing to give Pavlik a sweet offer that will make him want to take the fight. It’s really asking a lot to get a talented fighter like Pavlik to come all the way to Nottingham where he’s knows he’ll have maybe three or four fans in the ground among the 9000+ Froch fans. He’d have to be crazy to agree to a fight unless it’s huge paycheck.
