The International Boxing Federation recently ruled to keep the 28-year-old Peterson as their 140 pound champion after he submitted the medical documentation to prove that he was under medical supervision when he tested positive for synthetic testosterone last March while preparing for a rematch against Amir Khan.

However, Peterson has already been stripped of his WBA 140 pound title by the World Boxing Association, and it might not matter what the IBF decided if Peterson fails to get his boxing license back when he meets with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to try and get licensed. That’s going to be the toughest hurdle for Peterson, and if he can’t get past that one he’s going to have to go Commission shopping to find one that will give him his boxing license.

Peterson has high hopes of fighting Zab Judah, Juan Manuel Marquez or Tim Bradly if everything goes right when he eventually meets with the Nevada Commission, but that’s a big if, because they could deny Peterson his license. That doesn’t mean that Peterson won’t get licensed, because he can always do what former Top Rank fighter Antonio Margarito did when he was rejected by the Nevada Commission in trying to get licensed after having been suspended for having a plaster like substance found in his hand wraps before his fight against Shane Mosley in 2009.

Margarito went to the Texas State Athletic Commission and they subsequently gave Margarito his license. You got to figure that if Margarito was able to get his license in Texas after having been found with loaded hand wraps then Peterson will surely be in good shape forgetting a license too after testing positive for testosterone.
