Eddie Hearn needs to loosen up his purse strings to get a good opponent for Froch

Image: Eddie Hearn needs to loosen up his purse strings to get a good opponent for FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: Unless Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn opens up his purse to come up with a big wad cash for his fighter IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s next fight. Froch is going to be stuck facing some middle of the road opponent in November instead of talented fighters like Kelly Pavlik or Thomas Oosthuzen.

The South African Oosthuizen’s team has reportedly said no to a fight between him and Froch, because they weren’t happy with the money offer that was made to them, and they likely weren’t all that keen about having to fly all the way to Nottingham to fight in front of Froch’s home crowd full of loud, screaming Brits.

I mean, if a fighter is going to have take kind of treatment they should at least get top dollar, if not parity. I think a 50-50 deal would get Pavlik over to the UK to take the fight, and Hearn and Froch should seriously consider giving it to him because Pavlik would be the ideal opponent for Froch.

If they won’t want to give Pavlik a nice payday then they should offer Oosthuizen a 55-45 offer. I think that’s a fair offer because Oosthuizen is unbeaten and he’s already becoming a big deal in the United States with his fights being aired on Showtime. Oosthuizen reminds me of a cross between Froch and Andy Lee. He likes to slug like Froch does, but he’s got Andy Lee’s sharp boxing skills and power. Oosthuizen is like a more exciting version of Froch, because he doesn’t look as clumsy and slow as Froch, and he’s a much better boxer.

Hearn has got to open his purse up and pull out the cash. If he wants to be a major player among the top promoters in the sport, Hearn has got to be able to make fights like Froch-Oosthuizen or Froch-Pavlik, instead of letting the fights slip through his fingers, causing Froch to have to fight a much less interesting opponent. You get what you pay for. I’m sure Hearn can find some bottom feeder that will be willing to accept a low ball offer to fight Froch, but who wants to see that? I guess the Brits probably would, but few others would.
