Image: Bernstein sees a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight as possibleBy Chris Williams: Now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has started up a new promotional company [TMT Promotions] with his good friend 50 Cent [Curtis Jackson], Showtime analyst Al Bernstein sees a fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao as a possibility now. Bernstein doesn’t see it a strong possibility, but he definitely thinks the fight could happen.

Bernstein told examiner.com writer Chris Robinson “I think any change in the dynamic, even though it’s a small one, maybe that’s a good sign…the changes were slim and they’re still not high. But maybe there’s a little more hope.”

It’s definitely a good sign that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum sees it as a good sign that Mayweather is with TMT Promotions. At least Arum is talking positive about the move for Mayweather, because it seemed in the past that Mayweather working with rival promotional team Golden Boy Promotions was a problem. Now that’s he’s with TMT, it could be something that will make a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight a little easier to get made.

Earlier today, Mayweather complimented Pacquiao’s fighting style and said he looks forward to trying to set up a fight with him. That’s a big change from where he stood in the past. It’s unclear whether that will mean anything when it comes to trying to put together a fight with the Filipino, because Mayweather might still feel that he’s worth more than Pacquiao in terms of the purse split.

Mayweather would probably be right because Pacquiao has four losses and he was recently beaten by Tim Bradley last June. Pacquiao’s fight also did poorly, bringing in only 900,000 PPV buys compared to Mayweather’s 1.5 million buys a month earlier in his win over WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight really needs to be made soon because both fighters are getting up there in age and there’s no way of telling how much longer they can fight before they start taking losses on a frequent basis. We may already be seeing that deterioration in Pacquiao’s game with his loss to Bradley.
