Guerrero is targeting Floyd Mayweather Jr, and for that fight to have even a slight chance of happening, Guerrero is going to have to destroy Aydin.

Tonight’s Guerro-Aydin fight will be televised on Showtime and a lot of boxing fans will get to see for themselves whether Guerrero belongs in the same ring with Mayweather or guys like Manny Pacquiao. It’s going to be tough for Guerrero, because he’s put himself in a difficult situation by moving up two divisions following a year away from the sport and coming off of rotator cuff surgery on his left shoulder. Supposedly, Guerrero’s shoulder is completely healed, but even if it is, Guerrero’s power will likely be down considerably. This means that he’s going to have to beat Aydin by out-boxing him rather than trying to slug it out like he’d normally have done in the past.

Guerrero looks good at welterweight and seems to have a size advantage over Aydin. Whether he can keep the harder hitting Aydin away from the inside is the big question. Michael Katsidis and Orlando Salido both had success in fighting Guerrero on the inside in the past. Guerrero seemed to handle the head shots without any problems, but he was clearly struggled by the body shots.

If Aydin can find a place on the inside to work on Guerrero’s body he could take him out or weaken him enough in the later rounds to get a decision. The time off combined with the big move up in weight is likely going to hurt Guerrero’s stamina. Aydin isn’t noted for beating a big body puncher, but he clearly hits harder than Katsidis and Salido. All he needs to do is work on Guerrero’s body and you’ll see Guerrero running like he did in the Katsidis and Salido bouts.
