Also on the card will be unbeaten middleweight contender Peter Quillin vs. TBA, and WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi defending his title for the first time against Pablo Cesar Cano from the 140 pound division.

Jacobs, 25, hasn’t fought since blowing out Robert Kliewer in one round last year in March. Jacobs received some bad news in May, as he reportedly was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a cancer that is common with younger people.

It’s unclear who Jacobs will be fighting, but with the amount of time he’s been out of the ring it’s likely not going to be someone fairly soft.

Jacobs’ career was moving along nicely until he was stopped in the 5th round by Dmitry Pirog in July 2010 in a fight for the vacant WBO middleweight title. It was clearly too big of a step for Jacobs, as he didn’t didn’t look at all comfortable with Pirog’s punching angles and movement. It’s a fight that Jacobs could have done well in if he had more time to progress before taking the fight. Before that bout, Jacobs had mostly fought lesser fighters from the 3rd tier, and he took a huge step up in facing Pirog. His handlers took a big risk and it backfired.

Following his loss to Pirog, Jacons won his next two fights before taking a year off after receiving the cancer diagnosis.
