Image: Bundrage tweeting that he has Canelo fight on 9/15By Allan Fox: IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius Bundrage (32-4, 19 KO’s) is tweeting today that he’s got the September 15th fight against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (40-0-1, 29 KO’s) in a fight that will be televised on Showtime.

The 39-year-old Bundrage said “SHOsports, thanks. September 15th me and Canelo. The biggest unification bout in years. The contender season 2 star, IBF world champ vs. Canelo. I’m not interested in fighting anymore southpaws unless it’s Manny Pacquiao. Canelo is next! Time four unfication bout. IBF vs. WBC…God is great.”

Somehow I think Bundrage is wishing he’s got the fight, because I just don’t see him being picked out for Alvarez because of Bundrage’s big power and experience. He’s not as fast as Alvarez nor as skilled, but he’s got that right hand power going for him that would make a mess of Alvarez’s face if the bout went more than six rounds. I would be really surprised if Golden Boy picked him out, because they’ve been spoon feeding Alvarez soft opposition all the years, and Bundrage is a real fighter with a lot left in the tank. He’s not one of the typical shot fighters that are thrown in there with Alvarez so that he can look good against. Bundrage would possibly wreck Canelo Alvarez’s work, as well as Golden Boy.

No, I don’t think Bundrage is for real. The fighter that faces Alvarez will likely be a shot fighter or one that has little to no power to speak of. Bundrage isn’t shot and he’s a grownup at 39. Alvarez is still maturing and he’d probably go to pieces in a war against Bundrage.
