Image: Sergio Martinez: I'm going to make Chavez Jr. sufferBy Chris Williams: WBC Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (49-2-2, 28 KO’s) says he’s going to string out the beating he inflicts on WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32 KO’s) on September 15th in their HBO televised fight at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Martinez wants to make Chavez Jr. suffer before he finally blasts him to smithereens in front of a nationwide audience in the United States.

Martinez had this to say on the talk show Boxeo de Primera: “Chavez, I’ll have to pluck your feathers, you’re such a chicken. I’m talking to you. You know those baseball bats that are used to hit balls? You better come up to the ring with one of those baseball bats. You will have defend yourself good because I’m going to send blows all over you, even on your ID card, blows in the sole of the shoe. Chavez, I will crush your bones. I will score a knock out on you whenever I press you. But first I’ll make you suffer. So come September 15, you better get ready. I tell you right now: this old man will teach you a lesson.”

The 37-year-old Martinez has been waiting for ages to finally get Chavez Jr. in the ring with him, and he wants to take it out on him when he finally gets a chance to blast away at the son of boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.

Chavez Jr. has picked up a lot of self confidence with the match-making done for him by his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank. In the past year, Chavez Jr. has beaten Sebastian Zbik, Peter Manfredo Jr., Marco Antonio Rubio and Andy Lee. Those are decent fighters, but hardly great and none of them nearly as dangerous or as quick at Sergio Martinez. We’re going to see what Chavez Jr. is made of on September 15th, if he doesn’t pull out of the fight for one reason or another.

I think we’re going to find out that Chavez Jr. isn’t as good as some boxing fans thought he was because of his wins over guys that were picked out for him by his promoter. Martinez is the real deal, and he’s going to give Chavez Jr. a whipping whether it be in a small ring or a large one. A small ring won’t help Chavez Jr. win this fight because he doesn’t have the power or the speed of Martinez.
