Hearn has gotten new confidence in his fighter Froch after his upset win over IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute last Saturday night, and it’s got him now believing that Froch can win all the titles at 168.

Hearn said to Sky Sports Ringside “I really think Carl can unify the division. When you look at the other belts now, you have [Brian] Magee fighting for the WBA belt; You’ve got [Robert] Stieglitz, the WBO champion, and with [Andre] Ward moving up, the WBC is going to free up as well. I think there’s really a chance.”

I don’t think there’s a chance of Froch unifying more than one title before he hangs up the gloves. Maybe he might be able to beat the WBO paper champion Stieglitz if Arthur Abraham doesn’t beat him first. But Andre Ward isn’t planning on moving up in weight, and I’m kind of surprised that Hearn is so behind in the news department. Froch should have interrupted Hearn when he got started talking about Ward, because he’s not going anywhere.

With all the titles available, Froch should be able to get at least one more if he can get a fight against one of these guys. But he’ll be waiting a long time if Abraham beats Stieglitz because Abraham will probably decide on milking his title rather than facing Froch. When Abraham held the IBF middleweight title, he had very few fights against really good fighters. I can’t think of one good fighter he fought in all the time he held the IBF title, and I don’t see that changing if he can get past Stieglitz.
