Kessler already beat Froch by a 12 round decision in Denmark in April 2010 in the Super Six tournament, and the loss really upset Froch in a big way. For a long time afterwards Froch insisted that he deserved to win the fight and said that the outcome would have been different had Bute fought him in the Nottingham rather than his hometown in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Froch may need to take a fight with Kessler next if Bute decides not to fight a rematch with him in Montreal. Froch and Bute have a rematch clause that requires them to fight a rematch as long as the two of them agree on it. Froch no doubt is interested after destroying Bute tonight by a 5th round TKO in Nottingham.

However, Bute and his promoter may opt to avoid taking that fight because it might not be a good career move for Bute right now. Froch has his number, and Bute needs to fix all the areas in his game that Froch took advantage of. If they meet up later on in the year in Montreal, that will still likely won’t be enough time for Bute to get his game together enough to beat Froch.

Kessler, 33, recently moved up in weight to the light heavyweight division on May 19th and defeated Allan Green by a 4th round TKO. As good as the win was, Kessler looked vulnerable in the 1st round when Green staggered and dropped him after hurting him with a right hand. Kessler got back to his feet and came back to stop Green, but it wasn’t a positive sign for Kessler to see him getting dropped by a fighter like Green. After the 1st round, Green almost entirely stopped punching and made it easy for Kessler.
