Green: I’m going to dominate Kessler

Image: Green: I'm going to dominate KesslerBy Scott Gilfoid: The bigger and taller Allan Green sees himself working over the aging, smaller Mikkel Kessler tonight in Copenhagen, Denmark in their scrap for the WBC Silver light heavyweight title.

Green said to On the Ropes Boxing Radio at eastsideboxing.com “I’m not Mehdi Boudla the last guy who gave him hell for about six or seven rounds. I’m not him. You’re fighting a live guy. You’re fighting a real fighter…They can expect me to dominate Mikkel Kessler.”

I totally agree with Mr. Green. He’s got too much power, size and speed for Kessler, who is getting old now. Heck, Kessler barely even beat Carl Froch, and that gives you a pretty good indication of how badly Kessler is starting to slip. He’s only only fought one in the past two years, and that was against the smallish 5’9″ Boudla last year in June. With all that time away from the sport, Kessler should have taken his time and worked back into boxing slowly by taking on another Boudla-caliber opponent to get the rust out and build some confidence.

Green is going to be flurrying on him with his speed and power, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Green doesn’t get a quick knockout in the first couple of rounds. Green has speed approaching the Dirrell brothers and big power. He only had problems in the Super Six tournament because he was forced to cut too much weight for his body to handle. That really hurt Green, and gave people the wrong impression about him. Believe me, Green is a lot better than what he showed in the Super Six tourney and he’ll show that tonight by giving Kessler a beating in front of his own fans in Denmark.

Kessler was a decent fighter between 2004 and 2008, but he’s not been the same since Ward worked him over in 2009, beating him by a lopsided 11 round technical decision.
