Froch: Bute hasn’t fought at the top level

Image: Froch: Bute hasn't fought at the top levelBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch is discounting IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute’s best wins of his career and he feels he still hasn’t fought at the top level. Because of that, Froch says he can’t estimate how good or not so good Bute is.

Froch will no doubt find out first hand on May 26th in Nottingham when he gets a taste of Bute’s raw power and it won’t be a pretty sight for Froch if he turns out to be legitimate like most of the boxing world sees him as.

Froch said to eastsideboxing.com’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio Program “He’s not fought at that top, top level. The [Glen] Johnson fight doesn’t really count, and the Brian Magee fight don’t count either because Brian Magee is well past his best.”

Gee, two can play that game. If Magee and Johnson don’t count for Bute, then Johnson doesn’t count for Froch and Jermain Taylor doesn’t count either because he was well past his best.

How can Froch discount Bute’s best wins when you can obviously see the man has fought quality guys during his career. Bute has a win over Sakio Bika in June of 2007, and I rate Bika as being better than every fighter that Froch has faced other than Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell. Bika is seriously good, and he was very, very good back in 2007 when Bute beat him. You can’t say that Bute has never beaten anyone when you see an impressive win over a guy as talented as Bika.

Froch is going to find out that Bute, with his Olympic credentials, is going to be a nightmare for him in Nottingham. I know Froch is hoping that the Brits will somehow scare Bute out of his wits, but that’s not going to happen. Froch is going to be out there all by his lonesome taking a beating from Bute, and the Brits aren’t going to be able to do a damn thing about it other than wince each time Bute lays into Froch with one of his powerful body and head shots.
