Froch: Bute can’t come to my backyard and think he can beat me; I’m going to punish him

Image: Froch: Bute can’t come to my backyard and think he can beat me; I’m going to punish himBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch takes it as an insult that IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute felt good enough about his own skills to be willing to travel to Froch’s hometown on May 26th and fight him at the Nottingham Arena, where Froch’s fans are always loud as heck when he’s facing a foreign fighter.

Froch said “If Bute thinks he can come here to my home and best me he’s wrong. I know what it’s like to fight against the crowd, I did it in Denmark. To come to my backyard insult me. I’m gonna punish him. I’m gonna enjoy it. Thanks to him for coming over but he’s making a big mistake.”

Gosh, Froch shouldn’t let his trips get to him. The guy wanted Bute to come to the UK, and specifically asked him to. So now that he’s here and ready to risk his International Boxing Federation title against the judges in Froch’s home city, Froch is taking it as an insult.

What is that about? Froch has got things twisted. Bute didn’t come to the UK in order to mess up Froch’s head and make him feel like he’s disrespecting him. Bute came here first because he was trying to show what a gentleman he is. He knew Froch was licking his wounds after his one-sided defeat by WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward in the Super Six tournament last December, and he obviously figured that Froch might not be up to it mentally to come and fight in front of Bute’s own fans in his adopted country of Canada. Bute threw Froch a bone, and now Froch is biting him for having done so. I think Froch has got things twisted around in his head. Bute may be confident, but he didn’t come to the UK because he’s overconfident and sees Froch as a soft touch, he did it because he realized it was probably the only way the fight would have taken place. Froch wasn’t about to come to Montreal first to fight Bute, so Bute was an adult about it and agreed to come and fight Froch in the UK. Instead of being upset about it, Froch should be on his knees kissing Bute’s toes for agreeing to do this because he didn’t have to.
