We are in an era where boxers are protected by promoters. It aggravates fans and the boxers are often blamed despite not asking to be shielded from harm.

An American promoter comes to mind and we all know who I’m talking about. I’m not saying that Bob Arum is protecting Chavez. I would like to see Chavez Jr vs. Martinez, but I don’t think it will happen.

But then you have Eddie Hearn who is completely different. He has a decent stable. Alot of British promoters are losing fighters to Eddie Hearn’s vision of how boxing should be. He doesn’t mind putting his fighters in to tough fights. Matchroom knows it’s what the boxers want, what the fans want, he gets paid and everybody wins. In December last year Kell Brook went Stateside to fight in unfamiliar territory against Luis Galarza and dominated. Darren Barker fought the pound for pound ranked Sergio Martinez. It didn’t pay off but it was a bold move. Most recently Carl Froch was faced with a task that most said he couldn’t achieve, beating Lucian Bute. Another audacious move, and a good one.

I hope other promoters decide to compete by following the path and high standards set by Eddie Hearn. It could lead the way for titles being unified and weight classes having a clear champion. It is every fans dream and finally there is a promoter on our level.
