Image: Deontay Wilder in action on May 26thBy Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight phenom Deontay Wilder (21-0, 21 KO’s) will be looking to keep his perfect knockout string intact on May 26th in a scheduled eight round fight against an opponent still to be determined in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Look for the 26-year-old Wilder to be facing a good step up opponent to get him ready for the top 15 contenders in the division.

Wilder arguably has the best hand in boxing. As far as I can tell, he’s the biggest puncher in the sport with true one-punch knockout power in his right hand. Granted, Wilder’s left hand is still be developed as is his jab, but his right hand is all he needs to get by. The man has thirteen 1st round knockouts, and three 2nd round knockouts. When you have a fighter knocking guys out as early as Wilder has on a frequent basis that tells you that the man has got a cannon for a right hand.

Wilder is still being groomed as a future world heavyweight champion, which is why he’s not being rushed into a big fights as of yet. He only had like less than 20 amateur fights before turning pro after the 2008 Olympics. The fact that Wilder made it onto the U.S Olympic squad with only a small handful of fights at the amateur level tells you all you need to know about this man’s marvelous power. Nobody makes it on the Olympic squad with that little experience. The only person I can remember doing that is perhaps George Foreman.

I would favor Wilder over other top contenders and prospects like Seth Mitchell, Chris Arreola, Tyson Fury, David Price, Robert Helenius, Dereck Chisora, David Haye, and Denis Boytsov. He’s that good. Wilder is truly been blessed with incredible power that other fighters can only dream of having. He’s got the goods to go all the way to the top once he’s let loose on the heavyweight division.
