Image: Chad Dawson hoping to fight Andre Ward this yearBy Dallan O’ Donnell: Coming off the biggest win of his career against Bernard Hopkins, newly crowned WBC light heavyweight champion is ready to take on the world. Dawson has recently spoken about possible opponents for this year and the future.

One of the more interesting names that were mentioned was Andre Ward, the current WBC and WBA Super Middleweight champion. Dawson said that he is comfortable where he is at now (175 pounds) but he could easily make 168 pounds to fight Ward.

It shows guts on Dawson’s part that he wants to take the risk of moving down in weight to fight Ward and it would be a decent contest although I do believe Ward would win easily. Dawson is a good fighter but he is not that step above but at least he is trying to get there.

It also shows what he thinks of current WBO champion Nathan Cleverly by wanting to move down in weight for bigger fights. The Super Middleweight could become a very interesting place in the next few years with the likes of Lucian Bute and Carl Froch who meet later.

This year, still at the top of their games and even the return of Mikkel Kessler could make the division the most interesting, not to mention the up and coming stars like George Groves and James DeGale. Although brave in wanting big fights to cement himself as one of the best around and a big draw for fans, Dawson will come up short against the big guns at the super middleweight limit.
