Image: Finally! Sergio Martinez looks to have Chavez Jr. where he wants himBy Dallan O’ Donnell: After a long run around it finally seems that Sergio Martinez has his man where he wants him: The ring! The true middleweight champion of the world has long sought Chavez Jr. and has it seems got him to agree to fight him.

Martinez apparently signed a contract agreeing to fight Chavez Jr. next and now Chavez Jr. has also signed on the dotted line to make the fight a reality. There is just one catch however, Chavez Jr. has to beat Andy Lee first and that might not be the easiest job in the world.

Lee is a good fighter but I expect Chavez to show his class and beat Lee and finally fight Martinez. Martinez is a man on a mission. He wants to beat everyone in and around his weight class before he retires. He has already said he will fight Mayweather at 154 pounds and he is willing to fight Pacquiao at 150 pounds.

That in itself is brave and shows what kind of character he is. He will fight anyone. Don’t make any mistake, Chavez Jr. won’t be easy to get past. I don’t think he is currently as good as Sergio but he has the potential to be great. He also has a lot to prove to boxing fans. He had agreed to fight Martin Murray who had that controversial draw with Felix Sturm in Germany but he could not get a work permit to fight Chavez.

Now if that fight had got the go ahead then I think it would be a different outcome altogether, I would have backed Murray to beat Chavez. But that is no longer on the cards. Chavez had his hands full with Andy Lee and the task gets harder with Martinez lurking around the corner.

I pick Chavez to beat Lee but pick Martinez to destroy him when they finally fight. Martinez should be hounding Mayweather and Cotto to fight the winner of their clash on May 5th. Martinez is dangerous. This is why most fighters avoid him. Mayweather and Cotto would fight him at 154 pounds of course. But my question is: Why won’t a supposed genuine middleweight champion Felix Sturm fight Martinez? Is it fear? I’ll leave it to you to decide. Follow me on Twitter @dallan09
