Cotto seems to be ready to do whatever Diaz says until the bitter end whether it works or not.

It’s good that Cotto is so devoted to his trainer but I think he could be making a big mistake if Diaz’s fight strategy ends up completely worthless against Mayweather.

Cotto said “I will follow Pedro’s instructions as to everything…I will not say what our strategy will be, but I will follow the strategy that Pedro has designed for me come fight night.”

That sounds like blind faith to me. I don’t mind Cotto having some belief in what Pedro is telling but the man needs a good back-up plan if it’s not working out with what Diaz is telling. Cotto has been in the pro game a lot longer than Diaz, and he should know what to do and what not to do by now. Cotto won’t be able to take a game plan, perhaps they used against the recently operated on Antonio Margarito in his last fight in December, and then try the same thing with Mayweather. It’s not going to work. That’s what Cotto has got to be able to shuck free from Diaz if he’s not able to make adjustments that work. It would be disappointing to see Cotto stuck in some alien game plan that’s getting him nowhere fast and causing him to take a beating.

If Diaz has Cotto boxing Mayweather, then I can tell you Cotto will take a beating and get clowned. That’s not you fight Mayweather. The only way you can beat Mayweather is to come at him behind a jab and try and soften him up with it and then get him on the ropes. All the circulation motion that Cotto used against Margarito last December won’t help him a bit against Mayweather. It’s too bad Cotto is so convinced that Diaz has all the answers because he’s going to likely fall apart when things don’t work out as planned while following his trainer’s game plan to the letter. I can see Cotto losing his senses and reverting back to the lost fighter he was after the Antonio Margarito beating.
