Image: Hearn wants to bring Maidana, Malignaggi or Mosley to the UK for Kell Brook's next fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn thinks he can drag 40-year-old Shane Mosley, Paulie Malignaggi or Marcos Maidana all the way over to the UK to be undefeated welterweight contender Kell Brook’s next opponent in the summer. Hearn is looking for a big name, but it looks as if he’s shooting for a big name but not a dangerous name that could school Brook and expose him as being limited in front of his on British fans.

Hearn told Sky Sports Ringside “Maidana would be a dream fight…he still holds the WBA light welterweight title despite his loss at welterweight to Devon Alexander. All those kinds of names – Maidana, Paulie Malignaggi, Shane Mosley – they’re the names you want to bring out. OF COURSE I can bring them over. With the support of Sky Sports and 10,000 fans, you can generate the numbers to bring over the big names. It makes things easier.”

Gee, go after the flawed guys why don’t you, Hearn. Looks like Hearn wants the scalps for Brook but at the expense of quality. Those guys are flawed as heck. How about matching Brook against someone that’s actually looking good and not struggling? Maidana is coming off of a one-sided loss to Alexander last month where Maidana lost every round of a 10 round bout and looked as awful as you can look. So Hearn feels he’s a good one now to fight Brook? Somehow I’m not surprised by this. Malignaggi already has a fight scheduled next month against WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko, and he’s going to lose that fight. Malignaggi hasn’t fought anyone good since losing to Amir Khan. Why would Hearn want to get Malingaggi coming off of a loss to Senchenko? That looks like a cherry picking move to me. And as for 40-year-old Shane Mosley, he’s got a fight on May 5th against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez. Mosley will lose that fight by a lopsided decision. Yeah, I think he’ll travel to the UK to fight Brook if Hearn offers him enough money but that’s so sad. Mosley is pretty much a three round fighter now and won’t be able to offer up much competition for Brook.

Brook beat Matthew Hatton by a 12 round decision recently, but looked horrible from the 8th round on after gassing out. Had that been someone good in there with him instead of Hatton, Brook would have lost the last four rounds of the fight and ended up getting beaten. Hearn better keep Brook far away from the best fighters at welterweight because he’ll get beat. His arms are too short, he doesn’t move his head and his power isn’t on the same level as the better fighters like Andre Berto, Mike Jones, and Victor Ortiz. Those guys would be all over a short-armed fighter without any head movement like Brook.

I don’t see how Hearn is going to get Malignaggi or Maidana to the UK unless he waves big money under their snoots. He’ll likely have to shower them with green stuff to get them to agree to go over there and be in a position where they might have to get a KO to win against an seven round fighter like Brook.
