Image: Froch hopes to become a three time world champion by beating Bute on 5/26By Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) is hoping like mad that he can beat IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24 KO’s) and take his IBF title on May 26th at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, UK. This represents a home fight for Froch, his first fight in the UK since he beat the blazing fast Andre Dirrell by a questionable decision in October 2009.

It’s hard to believe Froch hasn’t had one fight in three years, but it’s true. Froch was busy in the Super Six tournament and found himself scheduled over and over again for fights outside of his home country.

Froch said “It’s a dream come true to get this opportunity to because a three time World Champion in my hometown of Nottingham.”

It does sound kind of like a dream, doesn’t it? But more like a sorry pipe dream to me. Let’s be real here; Froch isn’t going to beat Bute on May 26th and you know, I know and Bute knows it. The only one that doesn’t know it is Froch. The worst part of it I think is the fact that Froch is going to be fighting in front of so many of his own home fans in Nottingham and that’s got to hurt more than if the fight were to take place in say Canada or the U.S.

There’s something about getting whipped in front of your own fans that really hurts more than anything. My advice would be for Froch to forget all about taking the fight in Nottingham and instead going with Bute’s adopted country of Canada where he routinely packs in 10,000+ fans for his fights. Look at it this way: If Froch is going to lose anyway like I think is, isn’t he better off fighting in front of a larger gate and making more green stuff than fighting in front of a likely smaller crowd in Nottingham?

That makes a lot of sense to me, but then again I’m seeing it logically. If you’re going to get whipped anyway, then take the money by all means. Take that cash and cry all the way to the bank. Froch is taking taking this risky fight after getting completely 100 percent dominated by U.S talent Andre Ward last December. Ward didn’t do anything more than what Dirrell did in his fight against Froch other than fight in the U.S., but he got the decision and it was a one-sided fight. Froch needs some easy tune-ups instead of getting back on the horse against a hit and run fighter like Bute. That’s just not a very bright move if you ask me.
