Chisora: You think I’m coming to play games?

Image: Chisora: You think I'm coming to play games?By Jason Kim: A very agitated Dereck Chisora tried briefly to describe what was going on mentally with him moments after he slapped WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko across the face at today’s weigh-in. Chisora landed a cheap shot right hand slap when he and Vitali were standing face to face.

Chisora didn’t hang around long after slapping Vitali, and quick exited the building to look for his car. Here’s what Chisora had to say:

“What do you think I’m coming to play games? I’m all cool when he’s [Vitali] Mr. nice. I can give you what you want. I didn’t come here to play games; I came here to fight. What do you think this is? I hate him cause he’s messing up the sport. I’ll show and prove it on Saturday. Where’s my car.”

It seems Chisora implying that Vitali wasn’t playing Mr. nice when the two of them were in close. What could Vitali have said to anger Chisora enough to where he would strike him and why couldn’t he control himself until the fight started? Vitali had little choice but to talk back because Chisora was giving it to him verbally.

The way I see it Chisora is incredibly lucky that Vitali fire back a right hand because the opening was there for Vitali to to so. Chisora put up his left hand to block anything coming back from Vitali but it wouldn’t have stopped one of Vitali’s pile driving right hands from finding Chisora’s face. Thankfully, Vitali lept his composure like a well trained professional and didn’t get in the gutter with Chisora to put the fight in jeopardy by causing an injury.

In analyzing this move by Chisora, it looks as if he didn’t think it out clearly when he decided it was a good idea to slap Vitali. Maybe Chisora thought boxing fans would celebrate him and nothing would come of it. But it hasn’t worked out that way. Not only is Chisora being heavily criticized for this boneheaded move, but he could also end up getting a heavy fine by the World Boxing Council as well.
