Chisora: I slapped Vitali because they messed my career up for 18 months

Image: Chisora: I slapped Vitali because they messed my career up for 18 monthsBy William Mackay: Dereck Chisora finally came out and gave a halfway reason answer as to why he slapped WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, saying that it was because he felt his career was screwed around with for the last year and half due to Vitali’s brother IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko twice pulling out of fights with him due to injury. Those cancellations took up a big chunk of Chisora’s career unfortunately.

Chisora told talksport.co.uk “They messed me up for the last 18 months of my career. They called Frank Warren Promotions saying they wanted to fight me. We say, ‘yeah, let’s fight, let’s get the deal done.’ And then the next minute they don’t want to fight. I wasted my time…His brother [Wladimir] is going to get a slap…as well as David Haye.”

Wow! So Chisora is going to go around slapping Wladimir and Haye. I don’t know that it’s the wisest thing for Chisora to do, because if they press charges, they’ll get him on assault. And if they fight back, I can see them both causing Chisora a lot of trouble with their superior hand speed and power.

Why Chisora is blaming Vitali for what Wladimir did is the confusing part. That’s like like Vitali turning around and deciding to punish Chisora’s bother [if he has one] for Chisora’s slapping. It seems like the smarter thing is for Chisora to direct his anger at the original target rather than taking his aggression out on Vitali for what Wladimir did to him. It’s kind of lame. I don’t know what Haye did to Chisora other than ignoring him, which seems like a reasonable thing given some of the things Chisora has done both inside and outside of the ring. I wonder what Haye did for Chisora to be so eager to slap him as well. Going around slapping might not be the best thing for Chisora to do. He might have a hard time getting fights if people think they’re going to be cold-cocked with cheap shots or kissed on the lips, which Chisora did to one of his opponents in the past to annoy and shock him.

Instead of slapping Vitali, Chisora should be down on his knees thanking him 24/7 for giving him the opportunity to fight for a world title considering that Chisora is ranked #15 by the World Boxing Council and would likely never get to the point where he would be Vitali’s mandatory challenger to force fight. Vitali gave Chisora the chance out of the kindness of his heart when he didn’t have to. Chisora has lost two out of his last three fights, and there wasn’t any obligation on Vitali’s part to have to fight him. Vitali could have ignored Chisora until he decided to retire and no one would cry about it. Chisora is one of the bottom ranked contenders and is in no position to act as if he deserved anything.
