The 28 year old Chisora will square off on Saturday night at the Olympiahalle in Munich, Germany, and he likes his chances against the huge Ukrainian.

It has been nearly four years since “Dr. Ironfist” returned to the ring after a four year exile due to injuries. But since he defeated Sam Peter in October 2008 to win the WBC title belt, Klitschko has been a dominant heavyweight champion barely losing a round in eight title fights. In addition only Shannon Briggs and Kingpin Johnson have managed to go the distance against Klitschko in spite of their losing every round.

Critics have questioned why Vitali would fight Chisora, who officially has lost two of his last three fights. But “Del-Boy” impressed many boxing observers with his performance against Robert Helenius in December. The scorecards at the end of the twelve round contest proclaimed Helenius the winner. Most boxing fans however thought that Chisora was the clear winner, with many giving Helenius only three of the twelve rounds.

Vitali was in agreement with those who thought that Chisora deserved the win against Hellenius and he was impressed enough to tab him as his next opponent. Klitschko was quoted by the Mail Online saying the following:

“I was very impressed how Chisora fought against Helenius and for me – without any doubt – he won the fight. The judges gave Helenius the victory but we are boxers, we are experts, we know who won, we know Chisora beat Helenius. So he’s the strongest challenger out there.

“After that performance I wanted to take him next as I always want to prove myself against the best.”

Klitschko went on to say that Chisora is young and wild and a strong aggressive contender who moves forward all the time.

Chisora has said on a number of occasions that he does not fear Vitali and that he plans on scoring a KO perhaps around the 8th round. Although he is a huge underdog “Del-Boy appears to be genuine in his belief that he will prevail against Klitschko. His apparent strategy will be to move in and use unrelenting pressure in an effort to wear down the 40 year old champion. It is a strategy that Dereck used with some success against Robert Helenius.

The contest should be interesting and may demonstrate how much Vitali has left in the tank and whether or not the political activities in Ukraine, which Klitschko is heavily involved in have caused him to lose focus.
