Will Tyson Fury vacate his British title if David Price beats McDermott on Saturday?

Image: Will Tyson Fury vacate his British title if David Price beats McDermott on Saturday?By Scott Gilfoid: There’s a great deal of speculation as to whether or not Tyson Fury (17-0, 12 KO’s) will vacate his British heavyweight title if former British Olympian David Price (11-0, 9 KO’s) defeats John McDermott (26-7, 17 KO’s) this Saturday night in their British heavyweight title eliminator bout at the Olympia in Liverpool.

If you look at the kinds of heavyweights that Fury, 23, has been matched with up to this point and look at the fact that he’s turned down fights against guys like Mike Perez and the Klitschko brothers, it leaves you with the impression that Fury could vacate his belt rather than face Price and have him potentially mess up his progress to a heavyweight title shots. A loss for Fury against Price would likely result in a longer wait for Fury to get a shot at the title.

I hope I’m wrong about this but I think Fury doesn’t want any part of fighting Price simply because he’s faster and has much better power with either hand. Price also has a much better jab. The only thing that Fury has going for him is he moves well for a heavyweight when he’s in shape and he’s a decent inside fighter.

I rate him a little higher than Price in both of those areas. However, Fury night not get a chance to work on the inside if Price is able to get to him when he’s at a distance. I think there would be too much of a chance of Fury getting hit with something big and going down for the count.

We’ve already seen Fury hurt in his last three fights against Dereck Chisora, Nicolai Firtha and Neven Pajkic. Fury was even dropped by the light hitting Pajkic and that really makes you question whether Fury has the chin to compete against better heavyweights.
