Image: Brook vs. Hatton: Kell has to win and look goodBy Scott Gilfoid: By picking out Matthew Hatton (42-5-2, 16 KO’s) as his opponent for his next fight on March 17th, undefeated welterweight contender Kell Brook (26-0, 18 KO’s) has put a lot of pressure on himself because he not only has to win the fight but he also to really shine for boxing fans to take him seriously.

The fight will take place at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK. Brook, 25, is expected to easily win this fight but there’s a real danger here that Hatton will expose a lot of Brook’ flaws in losing the fight. Hatton has a way of sticking around and he could stink up the joint for Brook by making him work harder than he might have planned. A lot of people think Brook is the best thing since sliced bread based on his 26 wins and unbeaten record.

However, there’s very little quality anywhere on Brook’s record and the Hatton fight is actually a step for the 8-year pro and that’s kind of disappointing. Brook should have been at this level three to four years ago, not nearing his 10th year as a pro. He’s really been on the slow route to a title and even now he’s still being matched softly.

Hatton, 30, probably will stick around the whole 12 rounds and take Brook’s best shots and hit enough to puff up his face and maybe get some blood flowing all over the place. That’ll look real good, a highly hyped fighter bleeding like a stuck pig and being pursued by Hatton, a fringe contender at best. My advice is for Brook to just go wild crazy in the 1st round and give it all he’s got to try and get Hatton out of there before he stinks up the place and causes Brook’s stock to drop dramatically.
