Image: Berto disappointed in Ortiz's big mouthBy Dan Ambrose: Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-1, 22 Ko’s) is greatly disappointed by the blurting that former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-3-2, 22 KO’s) did recently in an interview at maxboxing.com where Ortiz said he was trying to break Floyd Mayweather Jr’s nose when he headbutted him in his 4th round TKO loss last year in September.

The comments were heard by Keith Kizer, the Nevada State Athletic Commission executive, and he now wants Ortiz to appear before the commission to explain his comments. The result could be that Ortiz fails to get licensed to fight in Nevada. The reason this is a bad thing is that Berto and Ortiz are scheduled to fight a rematch on February 11th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Berto told examiner.com “I just heard about that. I think that was stupid on his part. Just letting something like that come out; I think it was very stupid on his part and his team’s part. It’s something he has to handle and something he has to deal with. If it’s in Vegas or anywhere else, we’re going to be prepared and ready to go.”

It sounds like Berto is ready in case Ortiz doesn’t get his license in Nevada. Hopefully, they’ve discussed a back of venue they can use in a pinch if Ortiz can’t give the Nevada Commission a good explanation for why he made the comments he did. If not, then they’re going to have to move it to a different state. It’s Nevada’s loss, however, so hopefully they don’t act too hastily by pulling the plug on the fight taking place in Vegas.
