Image: Stieglitz in stay busy fight against Weber on 1/14By Dan Ambrose: In what will likely be his last successful title defense before he loses his belt against Mikkel Kessler on April 14th next year, WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (40-2, 23 KO’s) has a title milking fight against number #15 ranked World Boxing Organization contender Henry Weber (15-0, 3 KO’s) next month on January 14th at the Baden-Arena, Offenburg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.

This will be an easy fight for Stieglitz, as the 23-year-old Weber has no power and is at best a 2nd tier opponent, not a 1st level guy. But this is kind of been the norm for Stieglitz since he captured the WBO belt two years ago with an 11th round TKO win over paper champion Karoly Balzsay. Since then, Stieglitz has beaten the following challengers: Ruben Eduardo Acosta, Edouard Gutknecht, Enrique Ornelas and Khoren Gevor.

Not one of them has been a real threat and it’s pretty clear he’s been milking the title in the same manner that IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute has been milking his belt. But his title reign is about to end in April following this one last easy fight against Weber.

Stieglitz wins this fight no problem. Weber can’t punch his way out of a wet paper bag and Stieglitz will be stinging him all night long. A win over Weber says and means nothing for Stieglitz because he’s got big problems on his hands with Kessler in April. That’s a guaranteed loss for Stieglitz unless he can remain on his feet and win one of those odd decisions in Germany. I doubt he’ll be able to stay upright against Kessler though.

A more interesting fight will be on the undercard between Arthur Abraham (32-3, 26 KO’s) and Pablo Oscar Natalio Farias (19-1, 11 KO’s) in super middleweight action. Abraham has looked really bad in his Super Six tournament fights is really has no business still fighting at super middleweight. Although Farias is hardly a future world title material, he could give Abraham some problems if he can avoid his wild shots in the early going.
