Image: Will Juan Manuel Marquez need to KO Manny Pacquiao to win?By Gerardo Granados: After two great fights between these brave lion kings, the fight judges decision didn’t please boxing fans around the world, some believe Marquez won and others think Pacquiao won. Perhaps it won’t be necessary to score this one at home but it would be interesting to see the fans results in case the fight does goes to the distance.

After been knocked down three times in the very first round Juan Manuel Marquez came from behind in the scorecards to draw against Manny Pacquiao. It is true that one fight judge did not score the first round properly so technically Marquez should have lost their first bout. The first fight was a great battle with both fighters trading punches in a close combat, if Pacquiao have not floored Marquez in the first round he might have lost the fight on the score cards, but he jump on Marquez early and the effort of Marquez was not enough to convince the fight judges to award him the victory.

Juan Manuel had a real chance to win even though he had been floored three times in the first round, many boxing fans believe he won but the result was a Draw (Judges: John Stewart 110-115, Burt A. Clements 113-113 and Guy Jutras 115-110), it was really amazing to see how Marquez was battling Pacquiao after the first round, and it was evident to the eyes of many boxing fans that Pacquiao did not clearly won the fight, and also he was not able to dominate Marquez as he did against Antonio Margarito years later.

The second fight ended in a Split Decision victory for Pacquiao (Judges: Duane Ford 112-115, Jerry Roth 115-112 and Tom Miller 113-114) but once again some believed that Marquez should have been declared the winner. Basically the second fight was as good as the first one, and once again Juan Manuel was floored by Manny and that knock down was the main reason why Pacquiao might have won. The fight could have been declared a draw to be fair.

Sometimes fight judges protect the local fighter or the cash cow and award the victory to the boxer that lost the fight, a few times the fight judges declare a draw when one fighter should have been the winner, and in that case I consider a draw a decent robbery sort to speak.

Juan Manuel Marquez was not robbed and neither Manny Pacquiao was given the victory or the draw in their last two fights. But now things have changed, I am not referring to the age, weight division, or the malevolent insinuations of use of illegal substances; now Pacquiao is the cash cow and a big business that brings huge revenues.

If the fights goes to the score cards Marquez might need to have clearly dominated Pacquiao and also need to avoid been knocked down if he aims to be declared the winner. Strategy and the ability to adjust might be the key to win the fight for Juan Manuel, but if early in the fight Marquez gets behind in the score cards, probably he won’t be able to rally in the late rounds to win by decision. If Marquez tries to wait for Pacquiao to burn his power in the early rounds so he can adjust and close strong it might be too late and will probably lost the fight. It is also probable Marquez will be stopped in the early rounds to be honest.

The betting odds don’t favor Juan Manuel Marquez, neither does logic because if Pacman was capable to clearly defeat Shane Mosley and Miguel Angel Cotto, and to dominate natural welterweights as Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito then Juan Manuel only has a little chance to win in the welterweight division. Maybe Marquez should take the risk to try to take out Pacquiao before the seventh round, he has hurt Pacman in the past as Pacquiao has hurt him; now both fighters are bigger and stronger but their chin are still the same. By the way it´s weird to see Alex Ariza suspect Marquez physical enhancement, when Pacquiao have been suspected in the past years due the same reasons.

This fight might end before the twelve rounds and it won’t be necessary to score it, but we all might be confident that this one won’t be as disappointing as the Pacquiao vs. Clottey or Mosley fights were, because Marquez will engage as long as the fight last. If it was necessary to score the fight do you believe Marquez will be awarded the victory if he deserves it, or will he need to KO Pacman?
