By John F. McKenna (McJack): WBA/IBF light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) who defends his title belts against mandatory challenger Lamont Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KO’s) on December 10 in Washington, D.C. is confident that he can defeat any opponent he faces.

Khan was quoted by Google on Monday saying:

“If I train hard and keep training the way I do, I don’t think there’s anybody out there who can beat me.”

Speaking of Peterson Khan said:

“Our job is to beat him and move on to bigger and better things. This is going to take me from being a good fighter to being a superstar. Beating Lamont Peterson will hopefully make me one of the best fighters in the world.”

Khan’s bout with Peterson will be his last fight at light welterweight. He will then move up to welterweight where he plans on having one more fight before hopefully taking on undefeated superstar World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s).

Khan is trained by five time trainer of the year Freddie Roach who also trains Filipino icon World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO’s). Roach has predicted that Khan will be the Pound for Pound king in boxing in another year. Khan and Pacquiao have trained and sparred together numerous times while preparing for fights and have become close friends. Both Khan and Pacquiao say they will never face each other in the ring.

Khan says that he would be willing to stay at light welterweight for one more fight for a title unification bout with undefeated WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (28-0, 12 KO’s). Bradley had been slated to fight Khan last July but opted out of the match in the hope of landing a more lucrative fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Khan acknowledges that he must not think too far into the future and needs to first take care of Lamont Peterson. Amir is very confident going into the fight with Peterson and he believes that his speed and power will be too much for Lamont to cope with.

Amir does not appear to be worried about a possible home town decision in Washington in Peterson’s favor stating that even if the fight goes the distance he will win very convincingly.
