Cotto about to make the mistake of fighting Margarito with anger

Antonio Margarito Miguel Cotto Cotto vs. Margarito Cotto-MargaritoBy Eric Thomas: If you look at some of WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto’s recent interviews, he’s literally seething with anger towards his opponent Antonio Margarito, believing that he fought with loaded hand wraps in their fight three years ago.

Cotto is calling Margarito “a criminal” and is vowing to make him when the two fighters battle it out on December 3rd at Madison Square Garden, in New York. This could end biting Cotto on the backside if he goes into the fight looking to slug it out with Margarito to make him pay the price for what Cotto thinks happened.

The thing is this could really play into Margarito’s hand even better than he ever hoped for, because slugging it out is really the best chance that Margarito has in winning this fight. He’s a slugger 100%, and if Cotto is stupid enough to forget about boxing him and just slugging, it could make Margarito’s job that much easier.

Cotto isn’t as big as Margarito and he’s a sucker for an uppercut, which is Margarito’s best weapon. If Cotto comes into this fight thinking of getting back at Margarito by fighting with a lot of anger, this could be a repeat of their first fight. Margarito has a four inch height advantage over Cotto and he’s got much longer arms.

Margarito’s frame is bigger and he’s just a much sturdier fighter. If it comes down to which fighter can take more punishment, I think Margarito will win this fight again. Cotto may not realize how carefully he’s been matched in the last three years other than in his fight against Manny Pacquiao. He could think he’s better than he really is.

I think Cotto isn’t the same fighter he once was and is now older guy that is mainly still on top because his promoter aimed at him at one of the weak champions Yuri Foreman and then put him in with old lion 38-year-old Ricardo Mayorga in his last fight. I don’t think Cotto could hang with the better junior middleweights in the division and he could be in for another reality check when he tries to tangle with Margarito.
