By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch could be facing a potential nightmarish opponent in unbeaten number #1 ranked WBC contender Anthony Dirrell (23-0, 20 KO’s) in the near future if the 27-year-old Dirrell beats his next opponent Renan St Juste (23-2-1, 15 KO’s) on December 2nd in a WBC final title eliminator but at the Chumash Casino, Santa Ynez, California. I’m really high on Anthony Dirrell. He’s been kind of overlooked due to his talented brother Andre, but he’s every bit as good but in a slightly different way because he focuses more on offense than Andre. I’d favor Anthony Dirrell any day of the week over the slow, plodding and limited Froch. Anthony is simply a much better fighter with more tools than Froch can ever hope to be. Anthony is just blessed with amazing talent like his brother from birth.

Dirrell is expected to win this fight with flying colors and home in on whoever the champion will be after Froch faces WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward on December 17th. I’m thinking it’s going to be Ward who wins that fight, which is really too bad because I would love more than anything to see Dirrell face Froch so he can avenge his brother Andre Dirrell’s defeat. But I also like a Ward-Dirrell fight because it would pair two of the most talented fighters in the division against each other. Anthony Dirrell is merely a stronger version of his brother Andre, and will be problems for any fighter in the division including Ward.

But first Dirrell has to get by St Juste before he can start thinking about title shots. St Juste really impresses me with his power and unorthodox fighting style. He loves to throw looping shots and he’s got so much power that it’s hard to stand up to those big shots for long. St Just completely took apart a very good Sebastian Demers last December in a 2nd round TKO win. On that night, I think St Juste would have given any fighter in the division trouble with his big looping power shots.

Dirrell is going to have to keep his punches straight to beat St Juste to the punch. He’s got to keep his guard up the whole time because St Juste is a big head hunter and puts everything he has in each shot he throws.
