Will Pablo Cesar Cano replace Lucas Matthysse against Erik Morales?

By Gerardo Granados: It is not official yet, but according to ESPN commentator Dan Rafael it is a done deal and the unknown Pablo Cesar Cano (W22(17)-L0-D1) ranked twelve by the WBC, will replace Lucas Matthysse. If true it could be a “terrible” mistake to match an inexperienced Pablo Cesar Cano who is only 21 years old, against a savvy old lion like Erik Morales is.

All Erik Morales will hear if he wins is that he got the belt for free, not even his loyal fans can tolerate such thing. It is almost a certain victory for Morales if he fights against such inexperienced fighter. But if indeed he wins, would fans recognized him as a legit four weight division champion?

Jorge Arce believes he is a four division champion but he is wrong, he is only a three division king. When “Travieso” Arce won his third belt he defeated highly favourite young Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., showing a great heart and determination; he was supposed to loose but he defeated the odds. Arce won the respect of boxing fans by accomplish a great feat but will Morales get any respect by winning his fourth division title the way he is about to do it?

Maybe it would be better to postpone the title fight and add Cano as a replacement for Matthysse but only if the fight is a ten rounder bout. In his last fight (June 25) Cano defeated Pablo Lugo TKO7 fighting at the lightweight division. Maybe casual boxing fans will support this match as a title bout but for sure the hard core boxing fans wont agree. This decision could hurt the pay per view sales instead of result in any benefit, so promoters should hear the fans voice before taking any desperate desicions.

I have doubts. Will you watch the Morales vs. Cano fight?
