Image: Adrien Broner still fighting on November 26th for vacant WBO title, needs opponentBy Scott Gilfoid: Number #1 ranked WBO super featherweight contender Adrien Broner (21-0, 17 KO’s) will still be fighting for the vacant World Boxing Organization super featherweight strap on November 26th at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

However, Broner will no longer be fighting Ricky Burns, because rather than fight Broner, Burns has decided to vacate his WBO title and move up in weight to the lightweight division. Broner in the meantime still needs an opponent to battle for the vacant WBO belt on November 26th, and it’s still up in the air who that fighter will be.

Unbeaten Eloy Perez was one name that came up, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be taking the fight. The rest of the field is pretty drab with the best fighter of the bunch being Roman Martinez, but he’s ranked at number #15 for some reason. It probably won’t be him, but it should be because the rest of the guys will get mowed down by Broner just as Burns likely would have. Luis Cruz is ranked #2, Will Tomlinson #3, Perez #4 and Terdsak Jandaeng at #5.

None of them would even be competitive with Broner. It seems like the WBO has their ranking upside down because Martinez is the best and the only good fighter they have ranked in the top 15. It would be a great fight, a lot better than if Broner had fought Burns. That would have been a horrible mismatch, and perhaps Burns saw the writing on the wall and decided to get out before Broner destroyed him to take his title.

Yuriorkis Gamboa is moving up to super featherweight, so maybe we’ll see a fight between him and Broner in the near future. Broner is the best fighter in the division right now, and the only guy that matches up with the Cuban star.
