By Dan Ambrose: Photo credit: KMG/Dmitriy – Tomasz Adamek’s face is likely to get badly rearranged on Saturday night by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in their title fight in Adamek’s native country of Poland. Right now is the time to still see the fresh faced Adamek while he’s still got his face in one piece, because on Saturday Vitali is going to alter it dramatically to the point where it might be difficult to recognize Adamek.

Adamek has shown susceptibilities to cutting and swelling up in the past in fights against much smaller and lighter hitting fighters than Vitali. I don’t know what it is but Adamek’s skin seems to swell and tear almost like paper when he starts getting hit hard.

On Saturday night, Adamek is going to be getting hit hard all night long no matter what tactics he employs for the fight. Some think Adamek will come out looking to trade with Vitali, knowing that this is possibly his only chance of winning. If that’s the case, Adamek will likely get knocked out quickly without his face getting torn to smithereens.

But Adamek usually likes to run around the ring and throw shots sparingly to avoid getting hit. By doing this, he keeps from getting hit, and makes sure that the punch output from his opponent and himself is very low. It’s a losing proposition against Vitali, because he won’t be able to win rounds that way, but he’ll keep from getting knocked out immediately like he would if he were to stand his ground and actually try to fight Vitali.

However, the negative to that kind of tactic is that the beating will continue much longer in the fight, and it will be essentially defeat by a 1000 cuts. It will be a slow beating with Adamek getting torn apart little by little in every round. In that way, we’ll see Adamek’s face change from one round the next with cuts likely occurring over both eyes, his nose broken, lips busted and a lot of facial swelling to go along with all that damage.

It’s not going to be pretty let me assure you. I hope for Adamek’s sake that he doesn’t decide to run around the ring and prolong his punishment. It would be better to get it over with all at once by just going right at the buzzsaw Vitali and going down swinging without getting his face torn to shreds.
