McKenna (McJack): The Pacquiao – Marquez Trilogy on November 12 at the MGM Grand will undoubtedly be a better fight than Pacquiao’s last matchup against Shane Mosley. Once Mosley felt the power of Pacquiao and was floored in the 3rd round, he chose to get on his bicycle and run. After the knockdown it was all about self preservation and not getting knocked out for Mosley. Juan Manuel Marquez promises that he will not put on a Shane Mosley performance. But what are Marquez’ chances against the Filipino icon?

Since WBO Welterweight Champion Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO’s) last fought WBO/WBA/The Ring Lightweight Champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KO’s) in 2008 he has been transformed into a larger, more muscular and yes quicker fighter. Manny has been training with legendary trainer Freddie Roach for the past ten years. Pacquiao has been transformed into the best Pound for Pound fighter in the world under Roach’s guidance.

“Pacman” uses his speed of hand and foot to maximum effectiveness. Roach has taken Pacquiao from being just a good fighter to a great fighter who has moved up and won multiple championships through several weight classes.

Manny Pacquiao is not the same fighter who faced Juan Manuel Marquez in 2004 and 2008. Pacquiao and Marquez fought at 126 pounds in 2004 and 130 pounds in 2008. The first fight was a draw and Pacquiao won a controversial razor thin decision in the second fight.

The Pacquiao – Marquez fight will be at a catch weight of 144 pounds. Pacquiao has moved comfortably up to the welterweight division. Manny’s frame was not only able to handle the higher weight at welterweight, he thrives there. Marquez, on the other hand failed miserably in his brief venture up to the welterweight division. It should be noted that his opponent was Floyd Mayweather, who has a way of making his opponents look bad. Still, Marquez looked uncomfortable at the higher weight and quickly went back down to the lightweight division.

“Pacman” has benefited enormously from working at Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood. Manny has learned to use his right hand effectively under Roach. Pacquiao and Roach have worked extensively on using angles in his attack to baffle and confuse his opponents.

In short, the Pacquiao of 2011 ia a far better fighter than the one Marquez faced in 2004 and 2008. He is not only bigger and stronger he is a better fighter all around. It is doubtful that Marquez will be able to cope with Pacquiao when they enter the ring for the Trilogy on November 12.
