By John F. McKenna (McJack): With Wladimir Klitschko’s easy win over former World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion David Haye now just a bad memory boxing fans are now looking forward to the next heavyweight championship match-up.

World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 39 KO’s), who KO’d Odlanier Solis in the 1st round last March will be facing former cruiserweight and light heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek (44-1, 28 KO’s) on September 10 in Wroclaw, Poland.

Vitali at 6’7 ½” and 247 pounds is the larger of the Klitschko brothers, who have dominated the heavyweight division for the past half dozen years. Vitali, although he does not have the same degree of boxing skills as his younger brother is tougher, more aggressive in the ring and more entertaining to watch.

Vitali has a chin of granite and has never been knocked down in his career. Since his comeback from injuries in the fall of 2008 when he dismantled WBC champion Sam Peters Vitali has barely lost a round and has never been behind in a fight. Even in his losing effort against heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in 2003, which was stopped due to a horrendous cut around Vitali’s eyes, he was ahead on points. Lewis retired rather than give Klitschko a Mega Bucks rematch.

Vitali will be turning forty years old on July 19, but in his case it appears that he has gotten better with age. The secret to Klitscko’s longevity is at least partly due to the fact that he is always in superb condition, even between fights. In addition Vitali does not take a lot of head shots and is difficult to get to.

Tomasz Adamek at 6’1 ½” and 215 pounds will be giving up six inches in height and thirty pounds in weight as well as five inches in reach against his huge opponent. Most boxing fans and writers give Tomasz, who is a national hero in Poland, little chance to defeat “Dr. Ironfist”.

Adamek is 6-0 since moving up to heavyweight and is convinced that he has a strategy to defeat Klitschko. His goal when moving up to heavyweight was to nail down a title fight with either of the Klitschko brothers and for the fight to be in his native Poland.

It has always been Adamek’s goal to win the heavyweight championship of the world and on September 10, before his adoring fans he will get his chance. Tomasz has made no secret of his strategy, that being to use his superior speed and his agility to move around the ring. It is Adamek’s intention to take Klitschko into the later rounds and use a lot of movement and angles to avoid Vitali’s power shots. When the time is right he will use body shots to slow Klitschko down and if the opportunity presents itself, go for the KO.

Adamek feels that having the home field advantage will be a big plus. One thing is certain. He does not want to put on the kind of pitiful performance before his fans that David Haye did two weeks ago.
