By Eric Thomas: Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. and WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz met with Max Kellerman recently for a Face to Face promo for HBO.

Mayweather, who has never tasted defeat before, is looking to take the newly crowned World Boxing Council welterweight champion Ortiz’s title away from him on September 17th in their fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather said this at the face to face meeting with Ortiz: “I was born to be at this level. I was born to handle this.” Ortiz then interjected with “I really don’t care with all due respect. I was born to do this as well.” Mayweather then said “They’ve put 41 in front of me and 41 have come up short.” Ortiz said “I am not trying to disrespect anyone but I am here for one thing – to keep this ring and this belt around me.”

In looking at the brief clip of the Mayweather-Ortiz face to face meeting with Kellerman, it’s pretty clear that Ortiz is not afraid of Mayweather and he is not going to roll over and let Mayweather take his belt without a life and death struggle. It’s written on Ortiz’s face that he’s not going to be an easy win for Mayweather. But then again guys like Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton and Shane Mosley came into their fights with Mayweather looking just as determined and yet they still were all soundly beaten.

Ortiz is going to have to raise his game beyond the level it was in fights against Marcos Maidana and Lamont Peterson, because Mayweather would easily beat that version of Ortiz.
