By John F. McKenna (McJack): Undefeated Tyson Fury (15-0, 10 KO’s) won a lopsided unanimous decision tonight over Dereck Chisora (14-1, 9 KO’s) to win the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight Titles. The fight had been dubbed “The Big Brawl” and was an entertaining fight.

Fury controlled the fight from the outset using combination punching to win the one sided contest. Neither fighter had ever gone further than nine rounds before. It was clear that Fury had the better cardio and that he had prepared well for the fight with Chisora.
Fury’s training program paid off for him as he performed well in the latter stages of the fight. Fury weighted in at 255 ½ pounds and looked to be in top shape. Chisora on the other hand came in at a hefty 261 pounds although he is almost 8 inches shorter than Fury.

Chisora had his moments in the early stages of the fight and rocked Fury a couple of times. Chisora, however did not capitalize and each time he was rocked Tyson soon retook control of the fight once more.

The three judges scored the fight 117-112, 117-112 and 118-111 for Tyson Fury. For Chisora this is his first loss and is a severe disappointment. Previously he had been picked to be an opponent for Heavyweight Champion Vladimir Klitschko, but that fight was derailed when Vladimir was injured and then opted to fight David Haye instead.

The win over Chisora was by far Fury’s most important and impressive victory thus far and demonstrated that he is a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division. Fury showed a maturity in this fight that had not been seen before. Overall it was a solid performance by Fury.

Vladimir Klitschko, after trouncing David Haye on July 2 in Germany, had already mentioned the winner of the Chisora – Fury fight as a possible future opponent.

Tyson Fury at 23 years of age has shown much improvement over his past few fights. He is not yet however, by any stretch of the imagination, ready to deal with either of the Klitscko’s. It is hoped for his own good that he is not rushed into such a fight. Time after all is on Fury’s side.

In other action on the card:

Ryan Toms TKO 4 Pat McAleese
